3D Model of Luo Traditional Granary (Dero)

The traditional Luo granary (Dero) are cylindrical in shape and have a conical grass thatch roof. They  are made from pliable plant materials such as twogs (olando), papyrus (oundho), millet sticks (tiang’) that are woven together and sometimes daubed with cow-dung (owuoyo). Dero could be found in every homestead and were often build very close to the family house. They are essentially used for storage and could hold different grains and nuts (millet, groundnuts, maize, sesame), dried foods like aliya (meat). The granary also symbolized wealth, prosperity and food. security. (Ref: elimuasilia)
